Hits Are So Unimportant

I just recently made hits on my widgets an administator’s use only feature. Nobody but my admins (a.k.a. me) are allowed to see it. I don’t want any admins so plz don’t ask me. If you do, I am forced to take you off my blogroll for not following instructions. JKJKJKJK I won’t take you off. So, don’t ask me how many hits I have or anything, for they are unimportant.

The reason I took them off is complex. Hits only matter so much. If you don’t have many hits and you have a great blog then you still have a great blog that just isn’t well known. I am trying to get this word out: IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MANY HITS YOU HAVE, BUT WHERE YOU GOT THEM. If only your family gives you hits, are you even spreading your word to anyone new? Are you spreading your ideas? NO! YOU AREN’T! I like comments because there isn’t a competition, like with hits. A buncha pplz take hits and say, “Oh I have more than you so I’m better”. 1: It’s a blog and not your life and 2: The fact that maybe your blog is terrible and mine is wonderful. And with that, I hope to have made you think on what you or your friends who blog think about when it comes to “hits”.

  1. Thanks for putting things in a different perspective Ty – your right – it doesn’t have to be so goal oriented it just should be fun, or what’s the point?

  2. That’s a very good point, but isn’t it nice to know that a lot of people viewed you site? Hits tell you that. Also it just may be interesting to know exactly how many.

Ty’s Comment: I can see how many I have and I still might talk about it on this site but I just don’t think that the competition going on is necessary.

Ty. you are sooooo right. I think all your friends should do the same and get back to blogging as fun and a way to communicate. Your leadership qualities are shining.

    Ty’s Comment: Thanks Grandma!

  4. No the competition isn’t important, you’re right, But again, it just is really satisfactory to know that more than 5,000 people visited your blog. Think about that, 5,000 is a LOT! And they ALL visited YOUR blog. The competition isn’t important, it just sometimes gives a good feeling to know that many people visited!

Ty’s Comment:I know what you mean but I know how many hits I have. Do you need to? All I’m saying is that 5,000 peoples nothing. There are billions of people in the world, man, billions.

  5. No, you’re right, I don’t need to, but its always an interesting thing to see how many hits someone has. It can say a lot about a site. For example, if a site has 20 hits and was created several weeks ago, you know that the owner doesn’t update it… ever. But if a site has millions of hits, you know people really like the owner and what he/she writes. And if you think about it, do you even know 5,000 people? 5,000 may not be near to a billion, but its still a LOT

Ty’s Comment: True, true. But still…

  6. I kinda agree with Scott, but i agree with you too Ty. There are billions and billions of people out there.

  7. I agree that hits aren’t a big deal. I look on people blogs and they have certain rules that include the amount of hits you have, which I think is just retarded

Ty’s Comment: Yeah. Those blogroll rules are so dumb! “You must have 50,000 hits to be on my blogroll, add me and…”. They might as well say: “…stand on your head (even though I can’t see you) and dance around with people laughing and pointing and staring”. It’s bogus! You should add the people who are nice (or something) to your blogroll!

  8. I think the “777″ was because just the name “Scott” was already taken so I just added some numbers, and the “about” page was the first page I wrote, so that’s why. I started changing my signature to just “Scott” though

Ty’s Comment: Oh I c! That makes a lot of sense!

  9. i do see justinbob’s point, but hey, who wants a blogroll longer than anything else? I don’t think all of those people (Not just because I’m one of them…) are mean and stuff, they just don’t want a blogroll with 300 links. Its basically a limit. And you wouldn’t add me because you don’t want your blogroll to be huge, (its not even that big anyway) sk8rty

Ty’s Comment: The real reason I didn’t add you was because I only add people that I know (personally and not). I know you a bit better and I’ll be happy to add you now. Just add me.

  10. and also its only 300 hits or more, that’s very little and you can get to that number within a few days, not a huge restriction

  11. I agree

My blogroll rules are “No begging to be on my blogroll” and “Only ask once, politely”

Ty’s Comment: Those are fine… they are common manors that everyone should follow.

  12. Yeah, I dont add to my blogroll, because it takes up space in my site, and nobody knows what the blog is about. Instead, i made a links page, so I can tell readers what the sites are about and give them my rating. i dont care about their hits.
